Terms of service

last updated June 9, 2026

These terms govern your use of crwl, the web app and the crwl command-line tool. By using crwl, you agree to them. crwl is built for developers, founders, and marketers who want to see and fix how AI agents read their sites.

1. What crwl is

crwl fetches publicly available pages of a website the way an AI crawler does, scores how readable the site is to AI agents and answer engines, and suggests fixes. crwl is a heuristic tool. It is offered as a free web tier and as a command-line tool.

2. Acceptable use

  • Scan sites that you own, that you have permission to test, or that are publicly accessible. Do not use crwl to probe systems you have no right to assess.
  • Do not use crwl to overload, disrupt, or attack any website. crwl is designed to respect robots.txt and applies rate limits, and you must not try to bypass them or use crwl as a denial-of-service tool.
  • Do not use crwl for unlawful purposes or to infringe the rights of others.
  • Do not abuse the service, for example by automated hammering, reselling access without permission, or attempting to disrupt or reverse engineer it to cause harm.

3. Accounts

If crwl offers accounts, you are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure.

4. Availability and changes

crwl is provided as is and as available. Free usage may be rate limited, and features may change or be discontinued. We do not guarantee uptime or that the service will always be free.

5. Your content and ours

Your website and its content remain yours. The reports crwl generates about a site you control are yours to use. The crwl name, wordmark, interface, and engine are ours, and nothing here grants you rights to them beyond using the service.

Where crwl ships open-source components, those are governed by their own licenses.

6. No warranty

crwl is a heuristic that approximates how AI agents read a site. It does not guarantee accuracy, completeness, search rankings, citations, or any particular behavior from any AI system. Use its output as guidance, not as a guarantee.

Scores and grades estimate how AI-legible a site appears at the time of scanning. They are not a judgment of the quality, security, or value of a site or its owner, and a lower score does not mean a product is deficient. If you believe a published result is materially inaccurate, request a rescan or removal at legal@crwl.sh.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, crwl and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. For paid plans, total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the prior twelve months. For free use, liability is limited to a nominal amount.

8. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify crwl and its operators against claims, damages, and costs arising from your violation of these terms or your misuse of the service.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as crwl evolves. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which crwl is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
