Privacy policy

last updated June 9, 2026

crwl scans publicly available websites and scores how well AI agents and answer engines can read them. This policy explains what crwl collects when you use it, why, and what choices you have.

1. What we collect

  • The URL you submit. crwl needs the address to fetch and score it.
  • The scan results crwl generates for that URL: the score, the layer breakdown, and the findings.
  • Basic technical data such as your IP address and browser user-agent, used to keep the service secure and to enforce fair-use rate limits.
  • If you submit the contact form, the name (optional) and email you provide, with your message. We use these only to reply to you.
  • If crwl uses analytics, it is aggregate and cookieless. We do not use advertising or cross-site trackers.
  • crwl does not require an account today. If accounts are added later, we will collect the email you sign up with and update this policy first.

2. What we do not collect

  • crwl only fetches pages that are publicly accessible, the same pages an AI crawler can reach. It does not log in to your site or read content behind authentication.
  • You do not need an account to run a scan.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising trackers.

3. How we use your data

  • To run the scan you requested and show you the report.
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve crwl.
  • To detect and prevent abuse and to enforce rate limits.

4. Public reports

When you scan a site, crwl stores the result (host, score, grade, and layer breakdown) and shows it publicly: on the leaderboard at /leaderboard and at a shareable report URL, for example /s/your-site.com. This happens automatically on every scan. Because crwl reads only publicly visible pages, these reports describe information that is already public. If you want a result removed, contact us and we will delete it.

5. Cookies and local storage

crwl uses a small amount of local storage for preferences, such as your theme choice and your recent scans. crwl does not use advertising cookies.

6. Data retention

crwl retains scan results to power the leaderboard and to let you revisit a prior report. You can request deletion of results for a site you control at any time. If the service is discontinued, crwl may delete all results, with reasonable advance notice where possible.

7. Service providers

crwl relies on a small number of providers to run, such as hosting, content delivery, and analytics. These providers process data only as needed to operate the service and are bound to protect it.

8. Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, or delete data crwl holds about you or about a site you control. To make a request, contact us at the address below.

9. Children

crwl is a tool for website owners and developers and is not directed at children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as crwl evolves. When we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, note it in the product.
